Attention Deficient Hyperactivity Disorder

ADHD aka ADD

Did you know there are 3 types of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder? There is the Inattentive Type, Hyperactive Type and Combined Type.

The Inattentive Type is what used to be termed ADD. The hallmark symptom is struggles with attention. This type has struggles with staying focused and completing tasks.

The Hyperactive Type is characterized by hyperactivity and impulsivity. This type often presents with persistent fidgeting and feeling as though driven by a motor.

The Combined Type meets criteria for both.

Psychostimulant medications have been found particularly helpful in treating symptoms of ADHD; however, primary care doctors and psychiatrists often require formal evaluations confirming the diagnosis before prescribing such. Our office provides these evaluations and we would be happy to work with your treatment team in attaining a thorough understanding of functioning and offer supportive recommendations.
